Rare and fun 1970s Montgomery Ward Escort 55 Typewriter made by Olivetti - Working Condition with New Ribbon

274.99

Wonderful and hard-to-find bright yellow Montgomery Ward Escort 33 Typewriter, made for the department store chain by Olivetti in Spain in the 1970s. You can see Olivetti's distinctive marks in the square keys and the carriage most clearly. This machine is a sharp eye catcher!

Overall, this machine is in great working condition. Cosmetically, its yellow plastic body and keys pop as though they are new. Plastic on body of machine is smooth and shiny, keys are nice and clean. A looker! The snap-on case and back/base of the machine are a bit of a different story. Case itself shows heavy wear and scuffing. Clearly did its job in protecting the typewriter. I will add a photo of the case shortly - Etsy very recently has permitted more than five photos so I will take this machine out of my store room and photograph it shortly.

Mechanically, the typewriter is also in very good condition. Key action is smooth and keys have been oiled; none are sticky. Only performance issue to note is that the metal prongs attached to the space bar can tap against the base of the machine. It does not affect the functionality of the machine; rather it just makes a sound that is a bit atypical. A new ribbon has been installed.

A user manual for this machine is available via the Typewriter Database: http://typewriterdatabase.com/1972-montgomery-ward-olivetti-escort-55.1559.typewriter
Another general Olivetti manual is available here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/OlivettiPortables_ManualENFRDEITESPOR.pdf

I base my typewriter prices on condition of typewriter, and desirability factors including color, condition, typeface, and rarity. I pack well using packing peanuts to ensure a smooth, gentle ride for your new machine.

I make good faith efforts to describe my items accurately. Please look at photos carefully and fully read the descriptions prior to purchase, and feel free to contact me at any time with any questions you might have, or if you would like to see any additional photos.

I do my best to estimate shipping costs - if you would like to combine with other items or just arrange a free local pickup, just let me know before you purchase any items. If the difference between what I request for postage and what the actual cost is happens to be more than $2, I will refund the difference. If requesting international shipment, please contact me beforehand and I can estimate costs to your country.
